Biography: Born in Canada, James Wilson Morrice settled in Paris in 1890. He made the acquaintance of many leading artists of the time, including Whistler, who was a great influence on his work. He later began experimenting with Fauvism. Morrice also spent a good deal of his time traveling, including several trips back to Canada through which he introduced modern trends in Canadian art.
