Biography: Painter, Jan Mostaert worked mostly out of Haarlem. He primarily painted religious pieces and portraits and was influenced by Geertgen tot Sint Jans. He was employed as a portraitist for Margaret of Austria, Regent of the Netherlands. His most famous painting is West Indies Landscape, which is thought to be representative of New Mexico and based on written accounts of the area.
