Biography:
Giovanni Battista Naldini studied under second-generation Mannerist painters, Jacopo Pontormo and Giorgio Vasari, who where the pupils of Andrea del Sarto. Naldini entered Pontormo’s workshop at the age of twelve and stayed there until Pontormo’s death. He then studied in Rome for a year in 1560 and returned to Florence to assist Vasari in decorations for the Palazzo Vecchio. He then acquired multiple patrons in Tuscany and worked for the Medici. In 1563, Naldini co-founded the Accademia del Disegno.
