Biography:
Charles Negre began his photography career in 1844, using the technique to collect imagery for paintings. He began using both mediums equally. Negre was known for his landscape and architectural photographs of French cities including Paris and Chartres. He printed all of his own photographs, a practice uncommon among his colleagues. Negre retired in 1863 and died in Cannes in 1880.
