Biography:
German sculptor, Bernt Notke was first recorded in Lubeck in 1467 and worked there for most of his career. He was summoned to Sweden in 1483 to create a monument to regent, Sten Sture’s victory over the Danes. The expressionist woodcarving is exemplary of late Gothic style and is considered Notke’s greatest artistic achievement.
