Biography:
Scottish painter, Sir William Quiller Orchardson began working in London in 1862. He primarily painted portraits and genre subjects, later specializing in scenes of upper class married life. These paintings were compositionally arranged to create psychological and emotional allusions. His two most famous paintings are titled The First Cloud and A Marriage of Convenience.
