Biography:
Leilo Orsi studied with his father but was also strongly influenced by Giulio Romano and Correggio. Orsi moved to Reggio Emilia in 1538 and began to paint architectural facades and designs. After begin accused of murder, he returned to his hometown of Novellara and worked for the local nobility, including designing a villa for the count of Novellara. Orsi spent a year in Rome in 1554 where he was influenced by Michelangelo’s Mannerist style. He began painting religious and mythological subjects there before moving back to Reggio Emilia in 1576.
