Biography:
French painter and advocate of modern art, Amedee Ozenfant first collaborated with Le Corbusier in Paris developing Purism. In 1919, the pair published the Purist manifesto entitled, Apres Le Cubisme and from 1921 to 1925, the avant-garde periodical, Esprit nouveau and the publication, La Peinture moderne. Published in English as Foundations of Modern Art in 1931, the document helped to spread knowledge of the Purist movement overseas. Ozenfant furthered this development by founding schools in London and New York, while working on his simple still-life paintings.
