Biography:
Born in Tuscany, Pietro Paolini was sent to Rome to study with a painter who was influenced by Caravaggio. He moved to Venice in 1628 and studied the local artists’ use of color for several years before returning to his hometown of Lucca. His style had developed into a unique blend of Roman and Venetian influences. Paolini painted cabinet pictures depicted musical and allegorical themes. He also established an academy that trained many later artists
