Biography:
Philip Pearlstein was a leading figure of the naturalism revival that took place in the mid-20th century as a reaction to Abstract Expressionism. His early works consisted mostly of landscapes, but after the 1960’s he began painting realistic nude figures in domestic settings. Although he is sometimes considered to be a Superrealist because of the detail of his paintings, Pearlstein’s work succeeds this title.
