Biography: Antoine Pevsner was born in Russia but eventually became a French citizen in 1930. He was the brother of Naum Gabo and the two were both leading figures of Constructivism. From 1911 to 1914, Pevsner spent a good deal of time in Paris with his colleagues Archipenko and Modigliani. He then spent two years in Norway with his brother before returning to Russia in 1917. Pevsner co-signed his brother’s theory of Constructivism, titled Realistic Manifesto. He settled in Paris permanently in 1923 and began working in sculpture. He first used plastic and then turned to metal. Pevsner’s work became entirely abstract after 1927.
