Biography:
Franz Pforr was a founding member of the Nazarenes. Inititally from Germany, he moved to Rome with the group in 1810. His paintings focused on fantastical subjects with a medieval setting and were characterized by their bright colors and detail. Pforr perished from tuberculosis two years after he arrived in Rome.
