Biography: Upon his arrival to Rome in 1515, Polidoro da Caravaggio was first employed carrying plaster at Raphael’s Vatican workshop. With the guidance and encouragement of Giulio Romano and Perino del Vaga, he became a fresco painter, eventually noted for his murals depicting events from Roman history. Polidoro left for Naples after the 1527 sack of Rome, settling in Messina in 1528 where he painted mostly religious works. He was also a draughtsman, creating preparatory and finished drawings.
