Biography: Polykleitos was one of the most influential artists in the development of the Classical Greek style. He created bronze sculptures, and although none of his work survives, it was documented in literary sources and through Roman marble copies of his statues. He was the creator of the contrapposto pose, which was relaxed and balances. Polykleitos used this stance in his sculptures of god and athletes. He wrote a book on sculpture and aestheticism called the Kanon. The school of Polykleitos lasted for three generations and contained upwards to twenty sculptors.
