Biography: Marco Ricci first trained under his artist uncle, Sebastiano Ricci. After committing a murder during a brawl, he left for Dalmatia where he apprenticed to a landscape painter for four years. In 1705, he was in Milan working with Alessandro Magnasco. Ricci then began to travel, first to Florence and Rome and then moving throughout the Netherlands and finally settling in London where he remained for two years. While here, he designed opera sets and decorated homes. In 1716, Ricci returned to Venice and continued to work in set design and also producing landscape backgrounds for his uncle’s paintings. Small tempera landscapes dominated his output after 1720. These paintings were a combination of Netherlandish and Baroque influences. Ricci was thought to have committed suicide in 1730.
