Nationality: Italian

Biography: Michele Rocca was born in Parma where he was first influenced by the work of Correggio. He moved to Rome in 1682 and entered the studio of a follower of Pietro da Cortona. After returning to Parma for about seven years, he returned to Rome and joined the Accademia di San Luca in 1719, teaching there beginning in 1727. Rocca was known for small cabinet pictures of religious and mythological subjects painted in the French Rococo style, which was slowly surpassing the Baroque movement at the time.
