Biography:
Spanish painter, Juan de Roelas was also a priest. The majority of his work was done for churches in Seville. He was nicknamed the Spanish Tintoretto and the Spanish Veronese because of his similarities to those painters’ styles. This association alludes that Roelas studied in Italy, however his religious subject matter was found in Spanish traditions.
