Biography: Luisa Roldan was taught by her sculptor father in Seville where she and her siblings worked in his workshop. She married a sculptor from the shop at the age of fifteen and made the primary income of the family. From 1686 to 1688, Roldan worked in Dadiz creating wooden sculptures for the Cathedral and statues for the town council. She moved to Madrid in 1688 to apply for the court sculptor position, which she received in 1692. Roldan was the first woman sculptor documented in Spain.
