Biography:
Walter Rosenblum joined the Photo League in New York at the age of nineteen, strongly influenced by two of its members, Paul Strand and Lewis Hine. He stayed active in the organization, becoming the chair of the exhibition committee, a league officer, and the editor of the group’s journal, “Photo Notes.” Rosenblum worked as a photographer and filmmaker in Western Europe during World War II. After returning to the United States, he began teaching at Brooklyn College and making documentaries of life in Harlem, South Bronx, and Haiti. Dedicated to social issues, Rosenblum captured the positive and humanistic qualities of his subjects.
