Biography:
Giuseppe Sanmartino sculpted primarily religious figures, receiving his first major commission to complete the marble Dead Christ for a church in Naples left unfinished by Antonio Corradini. His successful completion of the project led to many more commissions from the Bourbon court and other Neapolitan churches. He also produced figure groups, decorative sculpture and portraits. In his late career, he worked in silver. In 1772, Sanmartino became a teacher at the Real Accademia di Belle Arti in Naples.
