Biography:
Andrea Schiavone was an Italian painter and etcher whose original name was Andrea Meldolla. His nickname “Schiavone” means “Slav” and referred to his birthplace in Zara, Dalmatia, which was under Venetian rule at the time. He spent the majority of his career in Venice where he made the acquaintance of Titian. Schiavone ‘s typical works included small religious or mythological pictures.
