Biography:
Hans Schwarz first studied sculpture for ten years with his uncle, Stephan Schwarz. He worked as a portrait medals in Augsberg for three years before he received an invitation from art patron and official, Melchoir Pfinzing to come to Nuremberg. Schwarz was forced to leave the city in 1520 because of behavioral problems and died not long after in 1521. Over his career, he produced 149 medals and wooden models and 137 preparatory portrait drawings.
