Biography: William Bell Scott was a Scottish painter and poet. From 1843 to 1864, he was the head of the Government School of Design in Newcastle. His best paintings were done there and consisted of a series that depicted Northumbrian history. Bell was a personal friend of Rossetti and his work bears similarities to the Pre-Raphaelite movement. Scott also wrote many poems and several books on art.
