Biography: Giovanni Segantini was an Italian painter who spent the majority of his career in the Swiss Alps. He initially painted landscapes and figures in a naturalistic style. However, in the 1880’s he developed a divisionist approach and a preference for Symbolist subject matter. He was one of the few Italian artists of his time period with an international reputation and he exhibited in many countries. There is a museum of his work in St. Moritz.
