Biography:
Initially a painter, Charles Sheeler adopted photography in 1912 to help his finances. He photographed the buildings of Philadelphia architects to make a living while exhibiting his paintings and photographs on the side. In 1919, Sheeler moved to New York where he collaborated with Paul Strand on the film “Manhatta.”
