Biography: Jan Siberechts was the namesake of his sculptor father but decided to paint instead, becoming a master in Antwerp’s Guild of Saint Luke in 1648. Initially influenced by Dutch Italianate artists, Siberechts gradually developed his own approach that depicted his rustic and rural life. An English duke brought him to England in 1670. Siberechts traveled throughout the country building his reputation as a Flemish landscape painter.
