Biography:
Walter Sickert was born into a long line of artists and chose to follow in the family tradition. He moved to London with his parents in 1868 and studied at the Slade School of Art under Whistler. Rather than painting from life, Sickert painted from preliminary sketches, a tip given to him by Degas while in Paris. He painted portraits, landscapes and genre scenes. As a teacher, Sickert had tremendous influence on the twentieth century British artists.
