Biography:
Bartholomeus Spranger studied in his native city of Antwerp where he was influenced by Frans Floris. He traveled to Italy from 1565 to 1575 and spent the majority of that time in Rome. Spranger then spent five years in Vienna before settling in Prague. In 1581, he was appointed court painter to emperor Rudolph II. His paintings were often mythological or allegorical in subject and close in style to those of Hans von Aachen.
