Biography:
Little is known about the life of Florentine Gothic painter Gherardo Starnina. He probably studied in Florence with a prominent fresco painter before working independently in Spain, producing numerous panel paintings and frescoes. His earliest known works were frescoes painted in a Florentine chapel in 1404. His altarpieces often depict the lives of the saints. Although his work demonstrated a unique approach, it also shows influence of the Late Gothic era.
