Artist: Frank Stella (1936 - )
Nationality: American
Movement: Minimalism
Media: Painting
Influences:
Biography: After studying at Phillips Academy and Princeton University, Fran Stella moved to New York and became a house painter. In 1959, he began painting in a Minimalist style, creating solid blocks of color and pattern with no brushstrokes. His later paintings were reminiscent of the Art Deco period as a result of his interest in 1920’s Bauhaus design. Stella’s latest work borders on sculpture as it used three-dimensional aspects and an array of colors.
