Biography:
Bernardo Strozzi first studied with a local painter before traveling to Genoa to work with a Sienese artist. He entered the Capuchin monastery at San Barnaba in 1598, but continued to paint mostly religious works. In 1610, he left to monastery to work as a painter to support his mother and sister. Strozzi painted frescoes and oils that were primarily influenced by Caravaggio and his followers. In 1630, he moved to Venice and established a large workshop that influenced many artists of the next generation.
