Biography: Yves Tanguy first began to paint after serving in the French Army in World War I. He joined the Surrealist because of the influence of Georges de Chirico in 1925. His work was sometimes categorized as Biomorphism because his forms were derived from living organisms. In 1939, Tanguy moved to the United States and married artist Kay Sage. His last paintings were Freud-like.
