Biography:
Tanzio da Varallo was the son of a sculptor and the brother of a fresco painter. He probably trained with them before visiting Rome in 1615, discovering the influences of late Mannerism and Caravaggio’s realism. Tanzio collaborated with his brother on the decoration of two chapels in the Sacro Monte in Varallo from 1616 to 1620.
