Biography: Giovanni Battista Tiepolo was born into a noble Venice family. He developed an interest and talent in painting, specializing in large wall and ceiling frescoes with dramatic narratives. He received many commissions from the aristocratic families in Italy, the clergy and royalty in Spain, Germany, Sweden, and Russia. A prolific artist, Tiepolo was credited with eight hundred paintings, two sets of etchings, and many frescoes. Tiepolo died at the age of seventy-four having established himself the most famous Venetian painter of his time.
