Biography: Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo first trained with his famous painter father, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo. By the age of twenty, he was producing his own work although he continued to collaborate with his father until his death in 1770. He painted both religious and secular paintings that demonstrated a sophisticated compositional approach. Tiepolo stopped working for fifteen years and afterwards developed a completely different style. He began focusing on a fictional clown character based from the commedia dell’arte named Punchinello.
