Biography:
English landscapist, Francis Towne lived most of his life in Exeter where he made a living as a teacher. His work was virtually unknown outside of his hometown during his lifetime. However, he has since been named one of the finest watercolorists of his period. Towne visited Italy, Switzerland, Wales and the Lake District during his lifetime to find inspiration for his landscapes.
