Biography:
After studying under Peter Paul Rubens, Sir Anthony Van Dyck began traveling and painting portraits and landscapes. In 1632, he was knighted and appointed Painter-in-Ordinary by King Charles I. Despite a brief two year move to Antwerp, Van Dyck spent his life in England painting many portraits of British royalty and other important figures. Van Dyck was known for his ability to provide realistic expression to his subjects.
