Biography: Giorgio Vasari studied in Florence, first for a short time under Michelangelo Buonarroti and then Andrea del Sarto. He traveled and worked throughout Italy, painting numerous ceilings, walls, altarpieces, and easel paintings. He was also a talented architect. In addition to Mannerist painting and architecture, Vasari also was a writer, first publishing “The Lives of the Most Eminent Italian Architects, Painters, and Sculptors” in 1550.
