Biography:
Adriaen van de Venne was mostly self-taught although he may have also studied with local painters in Holland. He moved to Middelburg in 1614 where he was influenced by Jan Brueghel the Elder and his father Pieter Brueghel the Elder. Van de Venne also worked as a book illustrator, print designer, and poet. He was employed by many of Holland’s leading writers as an illustrator. Van de Venne moved to The Hague and joined the Guild of Saint Luke in 1625, becoming the guild’s dean twelve years later.
