Biography:
Carle Vernet was trained by his father, Claude-Joseph. He won the Prix de Rome in 1782 and the Legion of Honor in 1808 with one of his battle scenes. His paintings depict historical events and daily life with accuracy in detail but ideally portrayed. Vernet was also a horsemea riding until his death and often depicting the animals in his paintings.
