Alison and Peter Smithson: From the House of the Future to a House of Today
Witte de With Center for Contemportary Art, Rotterdam, NL
Striving to adapt the progressive ideas of the pre-war modern movement to the specific human needs of post-war reconstruction, Alison and Peter Smithson were among the most influential and controversial architects of the latter half of the twentieth century. Alison (1928-1993) and Peter (1923-2003) Smithson were at the heart of the debate about the future course of modern architecture. They were among the younger members of CIAM and were founding members of Team 10. - Read Indepth Article at http://www.absolutearts.com

Deena des Rioux: Robotic Portraiture
Dahl Arts Center, Rapid City, USA United States of America
Since 1989, New York artist Deena des Rioux has taken her photo-based computer portraits on an international circuit. This spring, the Dahl Arts Center hosts her solo tour in the neighborhood where Gutzon Borglum emblazoned Mt. Rushmore with his monumental tribute to four US Presidents. Through an edgy mix of diverse components that keeps pace with the new reality of human hybrids, whether by DNA intervention or direct implants, des Rioux’s 'Robotic Portraiture' offers a sharp contrast to the usual attraction that brings viewers to Rapid City. - Read Indepth Article at http://www.absolutearts.com

Sheila Makhijani: Installation and Works on Paper
Talwar Gallery, New York, USA United States of America
On exhibit are works on paper and an installation of painted acrylic cubes. Sheila Makhijani executing meticulously with gouache, employs a flirtatious nature of line to reveal the intimate and tactile relationship between paint and paper. Makhijani's paintings carve out a fantastical imaginary world in a swath of whiteness, barely perceptible in some cases from just a few feet away, but reveal their grandeur and beauty on more intimate inspection. - Read Indepth Article at http://www.absolutearts.com

Lake-Scape: Liu Qinghe
Red Gate Gallery, Beijing, CN
Any attempt to modernize tradition is an easy target for criticism and resistance. But when the course of history calls upon us to make the move, we are often than not at a loss as to where to go. Since the idea came out more than ten years ago that says, “Chinese painting has died”, the age-old Chinese art form of ink and wash on paper has arrived at a time when change is a matter of necessity instead of an option in order to survive and the question of “how to change” has been brought to the table. - Read Indepth Article at http://www.absolutearts.com

Thinking, Talking, Doing: Joseph Beuys for Children and Young People
Stiftung Wilhelm Lehmbruck Museum, Duisburg, DE Germany
“I nourish myself by waste of energy“ and “He who doesn´t want to think must go” - these statements by Joseph Beuys were printed on postcards. What would we think if we would receive a postcard like this. Perhaps we would wonder or even be angry about “such rubbish”. Joseph Beuys didn´t want to annoy anybody - on the contrary – using his art he wanted to communicate with as many people as possible. He didn´t consider it to be a waste of time but a kind of food in the sense of power and energy. - Read Indepth Article at http://www.absolutearts.com
